We met while running… or in Ireland… or while running in Ireland…
Dublin 2011 - Our good friend Tom put together a ragtag group of thirteen characters to visit his home country, see some sites, drink some Jameson, and run the Dublin Marathon. A few of the people on the trip knew each other but we were mostly all new friends. This is where Ariana and Joey first met… so they originally thought. During the trip, probably while running the full marathon, they realized that they had met previously -- roughly 6 months and 5,000 miles earlier during a Nike Run Club. They talked for about 6 miles and as Joey remembers it, “chatted with a random cute girl”. Fun fact - of the twelve people on the Ireland trip this will be the third wedding! Forebodingly, Joey also jokingly “fake” proposed in the Fairy Glade at Blarney Castle…
The trip ended and although the two became friends, romance was not in either of their eyes. Flash forward a few months and they are once again involved in a race, this time a relay race from Calistoga to Santa Cruz. They got to know each other quite well on this trip, because if you’re not running, you’re spending 36 hours packed in a cargo van. It was here, while being forced to hang out, Joey decided that he could spend some quality time with Ariana. Shortly after, at Tom’s deportation party, Joey asked Ariana out and she mistakenly agreed. After getting lost on a hike for 8 hours and still finding patience for each other, the two knew what they had was a good thing. Plus Voorhees made Ariana his #1 immediately. Joey and Ariana decided to give this relationship a go.
After many adventures, beers, traveling, concerts, discoveries of new species (ask Ariana about the crabby snake), cleaning up cat puke, and laughs Joey and Ariana took a fall trip to one of their favorite places, Yosemite National Park. With Voorhees blessing, it was here, above tunnel view, Joey asked Ariana to buy him a life size Gremlin and also to do this thing we are about to celebrate!
